Keene State Rolls Past Franklin Pierce, 18-2
Murphy and Sanders lead Owls to first victory of the season

RINDGE, N.H. (March 29, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse suffered a tough 18-2 loss to Keene State College in non-conference action this evening at Sodexho Field. The Owls outscored the Ravens 9-1 in both halves and never looked back as Keene State claimed its first victory of the season.

            Keene State was led offensively by senior Colleen Murphy (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and classmate Lauren Saunders (Fremont, N.H./Pinkerton Academy). Murphy led all scorers with six total points on five goals and one assists, while Saunders followed with five total points on four goals and one assist. Senior Kristal Lundegaard (Babylon, N.Y./W. Babylon) chipped in with three points, registering one goal and two assists on the day.        


Freshman Kayleigh Jaksina chipped in with a second half goal, her first of her collegiate career.

The Franklin Pierce offense was led by freshmen, Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) and Kayleigh Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./N. Middlesex) who both registered their first career goals. Savini struck first, recording her goal with 1:58 remaining in the first half off an assist by sophomore Celine Stamets (Sausalito, Calif./Mavin Catholic). Jaksina added another Raven goal with 4:26 remaining in the match.

            Franklin Pierce was out-shot 39-8. Keene State senior goaltender Mandy Gray (Sharon, Mass./Mansfield) allowed one goal and made one save to earn her first win of the season while Raven goaltender Erin Hopkins (Pen Yan, N.Y./Pen Yan Academy)I  stopped 12 shots in net for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (0-3, 0-0 NE-10) will be in action again on Saturday as it travels to Assumption College for a match starting at 12 p.m. Keene State College (1-5, 0-0 LEC) will also be in action on Saturday as it hosts UMass Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
