Boardman breaks career goals mark

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 3, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse team suffered a 13-8 setback to Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern Connecticut State University today in New Haven, Conn. The Owls trailed 5-4 at the intermission, but outscored the Ravens 9-3 in the second half en route to their first win of the season.

Freshman Chelsea Spring (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) exploded for ten points on six goals and four helpers to lead the Owls offensive attack. Sophomore Allison Ahearn (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem) registered two goals and an assist, while classmate Amy Arruda (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) chipped in with a pair of markers.

Despite the loss, junior Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) tallied four times to become the Ravens all-time leader in career goals. She surpassed previous record-holder Jami Ladakakos with her goal at the 14:10 mark of the second half. Now in her third season, she has amassed a total of 130 points on 112 goals and 18 helpers, all program records.

Senior Amanda McIntosh (Madison, N.J./Madison) recorded a pair of goals, while juniors Kara LaSalle (Gilford, N.H./Gilford) and Alissa Silverman (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) each tallied once to round out the scoring for Franklin Pierce.

Southern Connecticut out-shot the Ravens 34-21. Senior goalkeeper Cori Krajewski (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) picked up the victory, as she saved 13 shots for the Owls. Freshman Michaela Sullivan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) stopped 17 shots in net for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (0-6, 0-2 NE-10) continues its five-game roadtrip on Wednesday, when it visits American International College for a Northeast-10 Conference contest beginning at 3:30 p.m. Southern Connecticut (1-2, 1-1) will also be in action on Tuesday, as it hosts league foe Southern New Hampshire University at 7:00 p.m.
