Franklin Pierce Women’s Lacrosse Among Best in Division II Academically for Third-Straight Year
Five named to IWLCA Division II Academic Honor Roll

RINDGE, N.H. (July 12, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse team is again ranked among the top programs academically in NCAA Division II as it received Academic Squad status from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for the 2005 season. It marks the third-straight year the program has received academic honors after earning top honors in Division II following the 2003 season.

         Also honored by the IWLCA were seniors April Demers (Gorham, N.H./Gorham) and Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle), along with juniors Kara LaSalle (Gilford, N.H./Gilford), Jessica Lloyd (Seymour, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) and Alissa Silverman (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) who each earned spots on the Division II Academic Honor Roll. Juniors and seniors who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.20 for the spring semester earn spots on the honor roll.

         Franklin Pierce is one of 13 Division II programs to achieve a team GPA over 3.0 for the second semester of the 2004-05 academic year. The top three teams ranked by team GPA are designated as Merit Squads, while all other institutions are designated as Academic Squads. The Ravens were one of three Northeast-10 schools to receive such recognition from the IWLCA. Joining Franklin Pierce as Academic Squads are Assumption College and Bryant University.

         Demers, named the Richard Burns Female Scholar Athlete of the Year at the College, graduated with a 3.711 cumulative grade point average in Mass Communications after achieving a 3.866 GPA in her final semester. She started 16 of the 17 matches she played for the Ravens this past spring and totaled two goals and a team-leading nine assists for 11 points. Over her final three seasons, Demers started 46 of a possible 47 matches for the Ravens and also served as captain of the Franklin Pierce field hockey team.

         Boardman, the only All-Northeast-10 selection in program history with her three selections capped by second team honors this spring, graduated in just three years with a 3.815 cumulative GPA after achieving a 3.89 GPA in her last semester. She ranked among Conference leaders again as she led the Ravens with 58 goals (4th NE-10) and eight assists for 66 points (5th). Her goal and point totals surpassed her own program single-season marks, while her assist total was a career high. Boardman also capped her career as the all-time leader in program history with 148 goals and 22 assists for 170 points.

         LaSalle has achieved a 3.548 cumulative grade point average in mathematics with minors in psychology and business administration, including a 3.737 GPA during the spring semester. A three-year letterwinner, LaSalle started 16 of 17 matches played for the Ravens this spring and registered two goals and two assists for four points.

         Silverman has achieved a 3.816 cumulative grade point average in mass communication, including a 3.945 GPA this spring. In 17 matches, 15 starts, she ranked second on the team with 30 goals to go with an assist for 31 points. Silverman will enter her senior season tied for second in program history behind Boardman with 111 career goals to go with ten assists (third all-time) and 121 points (2nd). She has also started 45 of a possible 47 matches in her three-year career with the Ravens.

            Lloyd has achieved a 3.538 cumulative grade point average, including a 3.770 GPA during the spring semester, while majoring in marketing with a minor in media management. She appeared in 16 matches, starting 11, including three (one start) in goal for the Ravens this season totaling ten groundballs and nine caused turnovers. In her three appearances in goal, Lloyd posted an 11.50 goals against average over 120 minutes of play.
