Franklin Pierce, 18-6

RINDGE, N.H. (April 1, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse team opened its Northeast-10 Conference slate with an 18-6 setback to visiting Assumption College this evening in the program’s inaugural game on Sodexho Field.

            Assumption jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and owned a 9-3 edge at the intermission. The second half was much of the same, as the Greyhounds outscored the hosts 9-3 en route to an 18-6 victory.  

Junior Jenny Mongeau (Westboro, Mass./Westboro) racked up seven points on six goals and an assist, while freshman Jenna Goldstein (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) recorded five goals and a helper. Senior Gennie Falcon (Reading, Mass./Lexington Christian) added a hat trick for the Greyhounds.

Sophomore Lindsey Souza (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) netted a pair of goals, including the first of her career for Franklin Pierce. Freshman Celine Stamets (Sausalito, Calif./Mavin Catholic) registered a goal and an assist, while junior Sarah Jez (Dorset, Vt./Burr Burton) and sophomore Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) notched their first career markers. Senior captain April Demers (Gorham, N.H./Gorham) rounded out the scoring for the Ravens.

 Franklin Pierce was outshot 38-17 in the contest. Senior goalkeeper Marjorie Schepp (Middletown, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) picked up the victory, as she saved 9 shots for the Greyhounds. Freshman Michaela Sullivan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) stopped 14 shots in net for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (0-5, 0-1 NE-10) opens up a five-game roadtrip on Sunday, when it visits Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern Connecticut State at 1 p.m. Assumption (3-2, 2-1 NE-10) hosts Merrimack on Saturday, April 9 in a Conference clash beginning at 1 p.m.
