Anselm Edges MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 29, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse team attempted to rally from a 7-2 deficit, but could not complete the comeback as it fell 12-9 to Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon. Sophomore Jillian Colonese (Guilford, Mass./Arlington Catholic) and freshman Caroline Gooding (Braintree, Mass./Thayer Academy) led the Hawks’ offense, tallying four goals each, while Colonese also added two assists. Sophomore Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) led the Ravens with four goals and an assist and classmate Alissa Silverman (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) registered three goals. Juniors April Silva (Falmouth, Mass./Sacred Heart Univ.) and Amanda McIntosh (Madison, N.J./Madison) both notched goals for Franklin Pierce, while Sophomore Kara LaSalle (Gilford, N.H./Gilford) dished an assist. The Hawks jumped out to a commanding 5-0 lead before Boardman was able to put the Ravens on the board with goals at 18:29 and 25:18 into the first half. Saint Anselm answered with its sixth and seventh goals of the game, however, and kept it a five-goal advantage heading into the intermission.
Franklin Pierce rallied in the second with an offensive outburst in which it scored on seven of nine shots, cutting the Hawks’ lead to 11-9 with 9:17 remaining, but Saint Anselm managed to hold the Ravens scoreless for the duration of the contest to secure the victory. Senior Ashley Simpson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) registered eight saves for Franklin Pierce and Karen Spellman (Woburn, Mass./ Arlington Catholic) made three saves for Saint Anselm. Franklin Pierce (2-3, 0-1 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow as opens the 2004 home season against Keene State at 4 p.m. Saint Anselm (1-1, 1-1 NE-10) travels to Bryant on Wednesday for a Conference game starting at 3 p.m. Saint
