Southern
Connecticut Edges
Ahearn led the offense for Southern Connecticut with four goals;
junior Dana Conrad (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) followed
with two goals and sophomore Emma Rufleth (Clinton Conn./Morgan)
and freshman Beth Gandley (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) added a
goal each.
Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) led
the Ravens with four tallies, sophomore Alissa Silverman
(Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) notched two goals, junior Amanda
McIntosh (Madison, N.J./Madison) scored one and classmate April
Silva (Falmouth, Mass./Sacred Heart Univ.) recorded an assist. Boardman
drew first blood for the Ravens with a goal 4:03 into the first half;
however, Gandley answered for the Owls just 40 seconds later. The teams
then traded goals once again, tying the score at 2-2, but then Southern
Connecticut went on a 4-2 run to head into halftime with a 6-4 lead. Ahearn
opened the scoring in the second half 3:35 into the period giving the
Owls a 7-4 advantage, but the Ravens came roaring back with three goals
to tie the score at seven apiece. Ahearn then notched her fourth and
final goal of the game on a free position shot with 25 seconds remaining
in regulation to secure the victory for Southern Connecticut. Ravens
goalkeeper senior Ashley Simpson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) made
12 stops and Cori Krajewski (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) had 12
saves for the Owls.
Franklin Pierce (3-11, 1-8 NE-10) next faces Saint Michael’s in
a Northeast-10 contest at home on Wednesday starting at 3:30 p.m., while
Southern Connecticut (2-8, 2-6 NE-10) will host Bentley on Tuesday in a
league game beginning at 7 p.m.
