Boardman leads Ravens with five goals

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 12, 2004) –
Franklin Pierce women’s lacrosse posted a 9-6 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.

            Sophomore Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) led the Ravens offense with five goals while junior April Silva (Falmouth, Mass./Sacred Heart Univ.)  tallied the game-winner and dished three assists. Sophomore Alissa Silverman (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) registered two goals and junior April Demers (Gorham, N.H./Gorham) and senior Angela Bottomley (Hampton, Va./Hampton) added a goal and an assist apiece. 

Jennifer Thibault (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery) was the leading scorer for the Penmen with a hat trick, while sophomore Stephanie O'Neil (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) had a goal and two assists.
           Demers and Boardman put the Ravens ahead quickly less than two minutes into the contest, but Thibault scored three of the next four goals in the game to tie the score at three. Boardman and Silverman notched two more scores each in the half, followed by Silva’s eventual game-winner with 1:13 remaining in the first that gave the Ravens a 7-5 advantage at the intermission.


Junior April Silva scored the game-winner and dished three assists.

Freshman Christine Corriveau (Seekonk, Mass./Providence Country Day) opened the scoring in the second half for the Penmen with 24:48 left to play, cutting the Ravens lead to one, but senior Ashley Simpson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) managed to hold Southern New Hampshire scoreless for the duration.  She stopped four free position shots during the second half and recorded six of her nine total saves in the stanza. Boardman added two more goals for the Ravens and Bottomley registered her first of the season to secure the win.     

Freshman Janara Digou (Salem, Mass./Salem) started in net for the Penmen and stopped four shots in the first half.  Sophomore Lisa McEachern (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) relieved her in the second half and stopped four of seven shots.

            Franklin Pierce (3-7, 1-4 NE-10) travels to Bentley on Wednesday for a Northeast-10 game at 7 p.m. and Southern New Hampshire (0-6, 0-6 NE-10) travels to Merrimack College for a league game at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
