Bryant Shuts Down Franklin Pierce, 10-2 SMITHFIELD, R.I. (April 13, 2003) - Bryant College netted the first seven goals of the match and went on to post a 10-2 victory over Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Bulldog Stadium this afternoon. Sophomore Cathy Sbarra led Bryant with three goals, while classmate Melissa Talamini added two goals and an assist. Senior Courtney Davis also netted two goals, while junior Elizabeth Blaisdell dished a pair of assists. Freshmen Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and Alissa Silverman (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) each netted a goal apiece to account for the Franklin Pierce offense for the day. Ravens junior goalkeeper Ashley Simpson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was outstanding in net despite the loss, registering a season-best 25 saves, holding the Bulldogs to 1-for-15 on free-position shot attempts. Bryant freshman Samantha Libby registered six stops to preserve the victory. The Bulldogs opened the scoring just 14-seconds into the match with Talamini's first goal of the match. Bryant extended its lead to 6-0 at the intermission, and then Blaisdell set up a goal for freshman Sarah Neilson 1:39 into the second half for a 7-0 advantage. Franklin Pierce got a goal back with Boardman's tally at the 23:34-mark, but Bryant reeled of the next three goals, two from Sbarra, over a span of 2:39 to break the game open. host Saint Anselm College for a Conference match at 3:30 p.m. Bryant
