Stonehill Flies Past FPC, 16-1

WINCHENDON, Mass.
(April 3, 2002) - Stonehill College, ranked No. 10 in
this week's IWLCA/Brine Division II poll, got hattricks
from three different players as it cruised to a 16-1 win
over Franklin Pierce University
in Northeast-10 Conference
women's lacrosse action at the Winchendon School this afternoon.
Franklin Pierce netted
the first goal of the match as senior Janel Sullivan
(Newfield, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored off an assist
from classmate Irene Smith (Kingston, N.Y./Onteora)
just 3:51 into the match.
However, Stonehill
senior Amy Bartlett got the equalizer just under two minutes
later off a feed from freshman Caitlin Clements. Clements
then put the Chieftains up for good at the 8:49 mark, assisted
by sophomore Amanda Stubbs, as they went on to build a 10-1
lead by halftime.
Junior Katie Lambert,
freshman Collette Carpenter and Bartlett all netted three
goals and Bartlett dished one assist to lead the Stonehill
attack. Stubbs chipped in two goals and two assists, while
senior Dorie Kiska added two goals and an assist.

Ashley Simpson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield)
made 20 saves in net.

returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Worcester,
Mass., to face Assumption College at 1 p.m. Stonehill (5-3,
4-0 NE-10) hosts Merrimack College on Friday.
