Assumption Shoots Past FPC, 17-4

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 6, 2002) - Assumption College built a 12-2 halftime lead and never looked back in posting a 17-4 victory over Franklin Pierce University
in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Rocheleau Field this afternoon.

After Assumption took a quick lead just 2:38 into the match on a goal from senior MaryEllen Sullivan, FP
answered with an unassisted tally by senior Irene Smith (Kingston, N.Y./Onteora) just 1:08 later.

However the Greyhounds rattled off 11 unanswered goals en route to building a 12-2 halftime advantage, kick started by a Tiffany Gull marker at the 4:08 mark.

Freshman Lauren Swiatek led Assumption with three goals and three assists. Sophomore Adrienne Gardner and freshman Alison Aucoin each netted four goals for the Hounds and Gardner chipped in an assist.

Senior Elizabeth Rich (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) netted two goals to lead Franklin Pierce, while Smith and classmate Janel Sullivan (Newfield, Maine/Bonny Eagle) both chipped in goals. Sophomore Shalon King (Phippsburg, Maine/Morse) dished the Ravens lone assist.

sophomore Ashley Simpson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was outstanding again in goal for the Ravens with 18 saves. Assumption senior Meagan Foran registered four saves in 42 minutes of play.

(0-4, 0-4 NE-10) returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University at 1 p.m. Assumption (3-1, 2-0 NE-10) travels to LIU-C.W. Post on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
