Surges Past AIC, 13-6
Ravens win gives them back-to-back victories
for first time in program history
WINCHENDON, Mass.
(April 9, 2002) - Franklin Pierce University
netted eight
second-half goals to expand a 5-3 halftime lead and defeat
American International College, 13-6, in Northeast-10 Conference
women’s lacrosse action at the Winchendon School this afternoon.
The win marks the
first time in program history Franklin Pierce has won back-to-back
games as the Ravens posted a 19-4 victory over Southern
Connecticut State University on Sunday.
AIC jumped on top
early with a goal from Ona Boczkowski just 1:21 into the
match. FP
answered with three goals, two from senior Irene
Smith (Kingston, N.Y./Onteora) over the next 15
minutes to take the lead for good. Smith’s first goal came
4:46 into the match and a Rebecca Thibault (Auburn,
Mass./Auburn) tally 14:24 in gave FP
the lead.
Simpson made 16 saves
in this evening's contest

Smith led the Ravens
with four goals and an assist, while classmates Elizabeth
Rich (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) and Jen
Petronis (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)
each netted a pair of goals. Senior Samantha Foster
(South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) chipped in
a goal and an assist.
Sophomore Sheri Benton
finished with two goals and two assists for American International,
while Boczkowski totaled a pair of markers.

sophomore Ashley
Simpson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) posted 16
saves in net to preserve the victory, while AIC junior Priya
Gomes made 13 stops.

returns to action Thursday when it hosts Keene State College
at 4 p.m. AIC (0-4, 0-3 NE-10) hosts Saint Michael’s College
on Sunday at 1 p.m.
