Robinson named to All-Tournament Team with
three double-figure performances
LAKE BUENA VISTA,
Fla. (November 11, 2001) - Franklin Pierce University
wrapped
up the 2001 Disney Division II Women's Tip-off Classic with
a tough 72-68 loss to Fort Valley State University, receiving
votes in the WBCA Division II Preseason Coaches poll, at
the Wide World of Sports Complex tonight.
The Ravens trailed
by eight with 3:17 to play in the first half, but closed
out the stanza with a 12-2 run, with all 12-points in the
rally coming from junior Jennifer Webster (Braintree,
Mass./Braintree).
FP
continued its
hot play out of the lockerroom in the second half as it
built and maintained a four-point lead in the opening eight
minutes, but Fort Valley reeled off a 19-8 run to take its
largest lead of the half, 66-59, with 6:34 to play in regulation.
The Ravens tied the
game with 1:19 to play on a jumper by sophomore Susan
Ocitti (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge R&L), but Fort
Valley drained four-of-four from the free-throw line and FP
failed to score on three different trips down the court
in the final minute to seal the game.
Webster led Franklin
Pierce with a season-high 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting
from the floor. Senior Amina Robinson (Hyde Park,
Mass./Jeremiah Burke), who was named to the Classic's
All-Tournament team, added 12 points, nine rebounds and
five assists. Classmate Emily Liskow (Strafford, N.H./Coe-Brown)
finished with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and
five steals.
Junior Maria Willis
led all scorers with 23 points for FVSU, on 8-14 shooting
from the field, and three steals. Classmate April Love chipped
in with ten points, ten rebounds and three steals.
The Ravens (0-3) return
to action this weekend, when they defend their University
of Bridgeport Purple Knight Classic title, on Saturday and
Sunday in Bridgeport, Conn.
