Bulldogs connect for school-record
14 three-pointers to aid victory
RINDGE, N.H. (January
26, 2002) - Bryant College drained a school-record 14
three-pointers to aid a 91-79 victory over Franklin Pierce University
in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball action
at the FP
Fieldhouse this afternoon.
Bryant cashed in on
14-of-22 (63.6-percent) from beyond the arc for the afternoon,
including 8-13 (61.5%) in the first half, as it shot a blistering
56.4% (31-55) from the field for the afternoon.
Franklin Pierce was
able to match the Bulldogs firepower in the opening 20-minutes
as it canned 6-9 (66.7%) from long distance and 55.2% (16-29)
from the field. However, FP
hit just 41.9% (13-31) from
the field in the second half, including 4-10 (40%) from
beyond the arc.
Sophomore Mary McConnell
led Bryant with a game-high 24 points (20 second half) and
she hit 7-14 from the field, including five three-pointers,
and 5-5 from the line to go along with four assists and
two steals.
Freshman Deneva Fogarty
added 15 points (14 first half), aided by three three-pointers,
and six assists. Senior Laurie Pilotte totaled 14 points,
hitting 4-6 from long-range, while sophomore Tanya Iwanski
chipped in 12 points, a team-high nine rebounds and five
steals.
Junior Jennifer
Webster (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) led the Ravens
with 23 points (16 first half) as she hit 5-9 from three-point
range, to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Senior
Emily Liskow (Strafford, N.H./Coe-Brown)
added 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals,
while classmate Amina Robinson (Hyde Park, Mass./Jeremiah
Burke) chipped in with her NE-10 leading 13th double-double
of the season as she totaled 14 points and ten rebounds
with four assists and two steals.
Franklin Pierce jumped
out to a quick 10-2 lead just three minutes into the game,
as Webster hit a layup and a three-pointer to spark the
run. Bryant fought back and knotted the score at 14 at the
14:44-mark with a 12-4 run, sparked by eight points by senior
Stephanie Tobey.
The game was back-and-forth
until Bryant closed out the first half with a 5-0 run, taking
a lead it would never relinquish after a pair of Iwanski
free throws 47-seconds before the intermission.
The Bulldogs took
control of the game with a 12-2 run to expand its lead to
18 points (85-67) with 6:01 to play.

returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Worcester,
Mass., to face No. 23 Assumption College at 5:30 p.m. Bryant
(11-7, 7-7 NE-10) hosts UMass Lowell on Wednesday at 5:30
p.m.
