Ellesmere Port, England, native earns first award of sophomore season (7th career)

RINDGE, N.H. (November 21, 2007) – Franklin Pierce University sophomore All-American Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Academy) appears to be picking up right where she left off after a record-breaking freshman season, earning Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week honors following the Ravens opening weekend of action.

Leedham, who earned a program record six NE-10 Player of the Week awards as a freshman to go with a record 11 NE-10 Freshman of the Week accolades, collects her first award of the 2007-08 season after averaging 25.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, six assists and 4.5 steals as Franklin Pierce opened its season with a pair of victories at the Doubletree Hotels Tip Off Classic, hosted by Saint Michael’s College, over the weekend. She shot 51.4-percent (18-for-35) from the field, including 4-for-9 (44.4%) from three-point range, and converted 11-of-13 (84.6%) free-throw attempts.

Leedham came within two assists of her first career triple double with 21 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and four steals in Sunday’s 76-53 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College. She opened the season with 30 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists in Franklin Pierce’s 74-61 win over Mercy College on Saturday.

Leedham leads the Northeast-10 in scoring and steals, while ranking third in assists and ninth in rebounds. Leedham has scored in double-figures in all 27 games of her collegiate career, netting 20 or more on 18 occasions and scoring 30-plus points nine times. She is coming off a freshman season which saw her become the first Daktronics All-American and Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention All-American in program history, while also earning NE-10 Freshman of the Year, All-NE-10 first team and NE-10 All-Rookie team honors.

Leedham, who broke no fewer than 19 program records at Franklin Pierce in 2006-07, led Great Britain to a bronze medal at the FIBA U-20 European Championships this summer. She led Great Britain in most statistical categories, averaging 22.1 points (3rd overall among Championship leaders), 8.6 rebounds (6th), 3.0 assists (6th) and 2.9 steals (4th) per contest. She is shot 48.7-percent (56-of-115) from the field (5th), including 14-for-30 (46.7%) from three-point range (2nd). Leedham scored 20-plus points in all but two contests, posting a pair of double-doubles.

Franklin Pierce (3-0, 1-0 NE-10) is back in action on Sunday when it visits Bryant University at 1:30 p.m. The Ravens return home next Wednesday, November 28, to host Pace University at 5:30 p.m.
