Ahrens Named NE-10
Freshman of the Week

East Greenwich, R.I., native honored
for second time this season
 

RINDGE, N.H. (January 28, 2008) – Franklin Pierce University’s Tori Ahrens (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) was named the Northeast-10 women’s basketball Freshman of the Week by the Conference office this afternoon.

           Ahrens earns the award for the second time this season after averaging 11 points, 11.5 rebounds and two steals in a 1-1 week for Franklin Pierce. She made 53.3-percent (8-for-15) of her shots from the field over the two games. Ahrens posted her second double-double of the year with season-high totals of 14 points, on 6-for-10 shooting from the field, and 13 rebounds (five offensive) to go with three steals and a blocked shot in Saturday’s 73-66 setback at The College of Saint Rose. She posted eight points, a team-best nine rebounds (four offensive), an assist and steal in the Ravens 67-59 victory at No. 22 Assumption on Tuesday.          


Tori Ahrens earned NE-10 Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season after posting season-bests of 14 points and 13 rebounds at Saint Rose on Saturday.

Ahrens has played all 19 games, with one start, as a true freshman for Franklin Pierce this season. She is averaging 4.8 points and 5.1 rebounds (2nd on the team) to go with 15 steals, ten assists and ten blocked shots (third) in 17 minutes per game. She is shooting 55.2-percent (37-for-67) from the field for the season. Her 2.05 offensive rebounds per game lead the team and rank 15th among Northeast-10 leaders. In 14 NE-10 contests, Ahrens is averaging 5.9 rebounds (17th NE-10), including 2.43 on the offensive end (12th).

           Ahrens notched her first double-double of the season in Franklin Pierce’s 83-64 win at defending NCAA Division II National Champion and then 10th-ranked Southern Connecticut State University on January 5, which led to her earning her first NE-10 Freshman of the Week award. She has led the Ravens in rebounding six times this winter – including each of their last three games.  

            Franklin Pierce (15-4, 10-4 NE-10), ranked 20th in the most recent USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II poll, is back in action on Wednesday when it concludes a three game road trip at Pace University at 5:30 p.m. The Ravens return home on Saturday to host the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 1:30 p.m.
