first collegiate double-double
leads Ravens to first victory
COLCHESTER, Vt. (November 18, 2006) –
Franklin Pierce rolled to its first victory of the season with a 62-36
decision over LIU-C.W. Post in day two action of the Doubletree Doc
Jacobs Classic, hosted by Saint Michael’s College, at Ross Sports
Center this afternoon.

Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Academy)
led Franklin Pierce with her first collegiate double-double as she
notched season-high totals of 27 points and 11 rebounds to go with
three blocks and three steals over 33 minutes of action. She connected
on 11-of-17 shots from the field (1-1 from three point range) and
converted 4-7 at the line, accounting for nearly half of the Ravens
offensive output.
Junior Stephanie
Bergeron (Pointe Claire, Quebec/Dawson College)
added eight points, four assists and three rebounds, while sophomore Jennifer Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Academy)
chipped in with nine assists.
Franklin Pierce hit 48.3-percent (14-of-29) of its shots from
the field in the first half to build a 37-13 lead at the break and
never looked back. The Ravens forced 29 C.W. Post turnovers and held
the Pioneers to 23.2% (13-56) shooting for the contest.
Junior Erica Bell
(Mayslanding, N.J./Oakcrest)
led C.W. Post with 11 points and nine rebounds (five offensive), while
freshman Gina Catherall
(Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep)
added 11 points and three steals.
Trailing by three (10-7) just over four minutes into the
contest, Franklin Pierce out-scored the Pioneers 30-3 over the
remainder of the half to take control of the game and never looked
back. The Ravens led 37-13 at halftime and extended their lead to 32
on two occasions early in the second half.
Franklin Pierce (1-1, 0-0 NE-10) opens Northeast-10 Conference
play on Tuesday at Assumption College at 5:30 p.m. LIU-C.W. Post (0-2,
0-0 ECC) faces host Saint Michael’s tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
