Pierce Rolls RINDGE, N.H. (January 21, 2006)
– Franklin
Pierce, ranked sixth in this week’s NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional poll, never trailed, opening a 14-2 lead, in cruising to a
69-43 victory over Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference
women’s basketball action at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse this
afternoon. Franklin
Pierce shot 55.6-percent (15-27) in the first half, including 4-of-8
(50%) from three-point range, and turned 27 Le Moyne turnovers into 30
points at the other end. The Ravens limited the Dolphins to 31.6%
(12-38) shooting for the afternoon, including 27.8% (5-18) in the
second half. The Ravens also won the rebounding battle, 34-24, and
registered 19 assists on 24 field goals for the afternoon, finishing
shooting 46.2% (34-52) for the day. Junior Danielle D’Ettorre (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/St. Mary’s) led the Ravens charge with 18 points (11 first half), hitting 5-of-7 from the floor (2-4 three’s) and converting all six free-throw attempts, to go with five rebounds and three steals. Senior Heather Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) added 12 points, on 4-7 shooting from the field (2-3 three’s), and five rebounds. Freshman Melissa Kapela (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) chipped in a season-high 11 points, on 5-8 shooting, and two steals.
Junior
Lindsay
Carr (Bronx, N.Y./Preston) was
the lone Le Moyne player to reach double-figures, scoring 13 points,
aided by 8-of-10 shooting at the free-throw line, and three rebounds.
Freshman Vanessa
Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) added
nine points, while senior Andrea
Pluchino (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool)
grabbed a team-best five rebounds. D’Ettorre
opened the contest with a three-pointer and Franklin Pierce never
trailed, opening a 14-2 lead after a Kapela jumper 6:15 into the game
and leading 18-4 after a D’Ettorre jumper with 12:07 left in the
half. Le
Moyne was never within double-digits the rest of the way as Franklin
Pierce built its lead to 20 points (34-14) on a D’Ettorre jumper
with 4:52 to go before the break. The Ravens lead was 19 (38-19) at
the break and was 31 (59-28) after a pair of D’Ettorre free throws
with 6:42 still to play. Franklin Pierce (11-7, 8-5 NE-10) is on the road again on Tuesday when it faces Saint Michael’s College, ranked fourth in the Northeast, at 5:30 p.m. Le Moyne (8-10, 5-9 NE-10) visits Southern New Hampshire University on Monday at 5:30 p.m. |
