St. Thomas Aquinas, 93-44

Ravens complete undefeated weekend at 
Clarion Tip Off Classic

  COLCHESTER, Vt. (Nov. 21, 2004) – The Franklin Pierce women’s basketball team breezed to a convincing 93-44 win over non-conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas today at the Ross Sports Center. With the victory, the Ravens completed a perfect 2-0 weekend at the Clarion Tip Off Classic, hosted by Saint Michael’s College.

            Franklin Pierce got out to an early lead and never looked back. The Ravens dominated the first half, finishing with a 53-26 lead at the break. They shot 56.8-percent (21-37) from the field in the opening frame, making seven of their eleven three point attempts. For the game, Franklin Pierce shot 59.7-percent, while St. Thomas Aquinas only managed to make 26.3-percent of their attempts. The Ravens also owned a 44-30 rebounding advantage and held the lady Spartans to 18 second half points.

            Five Ravens scored in double-digits, as Franklin Pierce used a balanced scoring attack to earn their second straight victory. Sophomore point guard Mollie Stelmack (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) continued to have the hot hand, draining four of six three pointers. She finished with a game-high 21 points and six assists to go along with five rebounds. Classmate Danielle D’Ettorre (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontraio/St. Mary’s) added 17 points and a team-best seven rebounds, while freshman guard Josie Lidke (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) chipped in with 16 points on 7-of-13 from the field.

            St. Thomas Aquinas was led by a pair of guards, as freshman Erika Ostrove (Cresskill, N.J./Creskill) and junior Kelly McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) scored 12 and ten points respectively. Senior forward Regina Cunningham (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds despite the loss. 

Franklin Pierce (2-0) will return to the court on Tuesday, when they travel to Southern Connecticut for their Northeast-10 Conference opener, which tips off at 5 p.m. St. Thomas Aquinas (0-2) will also be in action on Tuesday, as the host Queens College for a game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
