Pierce Tops RINDGE,
N.H. (January 11, 2005) – Franklin
Pierce claimed its first victory over Saint Anselm College since a
season-opening win in 1997 with a 64-55 decision in Northeast-10
Conference women’s basketball action at the Franklin Pierce
Fieldhouse tonight. Franklin Pierce’s first win over Saint Anselm since a season-opening 68-49 victory in 1997 snaps a nine-game slide against the Hawks and keeps the Ravens perfect in four home contests this winter. The Ravens used a barrage of three-pointers to dispatch the Hawks tonight, canning 11-of-25 attempts (44-percent) compared to 3-of-9 (33.3%) from long-range for the visitors.
Sophomore
forward Danielle D’Ettorre (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/St.
Mary’s) led a balanced Franklin Pierce offense with 17
points, eight rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks.
Junior captain Heather Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton)
added 17 points (14 first half), as she hit 8-of-13 shots from the
field, four rebounds and six steals.
Sophomore Mollie Stelmack (New Westminster, British
Columbia/New Westminster) contributed 15 points (12 first
half), hitting 5-8 from beyond the arc, and five assists, while
freshman Josie Lidke (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) chipped in
ten points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Sophomore Jessica Morgan (West Lebanon, N.H./Southern
Conn. State) paced Saint Anselm with 16 points and ten
rebounds. Junior Katie Levane (Port Washington, N.Y./Our Lady of
Mercy) finished with 15 points and four steals, while
sophomore Christina Buckley (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave)
chipped in nine points and five assists.
Franklin Pierce finished out the first half with a 17-7 run to
take an 11-point (37-26) lead into the break. Stelmack canned three
from long-distance, while Lidke and freshman Stephanie Bergeron
(Pointe Claire, Quebec/Dawson College) each drained three’s
during the stretch. Trailing
by 14 (55-41) with 7:51 on the clock, Saint Anselm closed to gap to
five (55-50) with 2:47 to play after a 9-0 spurt. Morgan and Levane
keyed the rally with four points each. Franklin Pierce canned 7-of-10
free throws down the stretch to ice the victory Franklin
Pierce (8-4, 5-3 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts
Southern Connecticut State University at 1:30 p.m. Saint Anselm (4-8,
3-5 NE-10) visits Southern Connecticut Thursday at 5:30 p.m. |
