Pace Stops Franklin Pierce, 73-61
Poor shooting ends Ravens three-game
Conference winning streak

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (January 3, 2005) – Pace University limited Franklin Pierce to 36.9-percent shooting and dominated the glass in posting a 73-61 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball action at the Ann & Alfred Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center tonight.

Pace turned a 54-29 rebounding advantage into a 19-11 advantage in second-chance points and Franklin Pierce hit just 36.9-percent (24-65) of its shots from the field. The Ravens hit just 23.8% (5-21) from three-point range, including 3-12 (25%) in the second half, and converted a mere 8-18 (44.4%) from the free-throw line for the night.

Junior Jesse Dlabola (Levittown, N.Y./Holy Trinity) led a balanced Pace attack with 15 points as she hit 4-of-9 from three-point range to go with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Sophomore Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) and junior Juana Andrews (Augusta, Maine/Cony) each registered double-doubles. Sheppard totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Andrews added 11 points and 11 boards. Junior Maria Brown (Frederick, Md./Frederick) chipped in 12 points, seven boards and three blocks.

Freshman Josie Lidke hit 6-of-10 shots from the field and finished with 13 points and a season-high five steals.

Sophomore Mollie Stelmack (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster) led Franklin Pierce with a game-high 19 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Josie Lidke (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) totaled 13 points, hitting 6-10 from the floor, three rebounds and five steals, while senior Patricia Lang (Monroe, N.H./Saint Johnsbury Academy) added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Ravens carried the early momentum in the contest, taking a nine-point (29-20) lead with 8:13 to play in the first half after a 12-3 run. Stelmack sparked the run with a conventional three-point play before Lang capped the rally with a basket from long-distance.

The Setters answered by closing the stanza with a 19-3 run to take a seven-point lead at the break (39-32). Andrews scored six points during the rally, while Dlabola canned a big three during that stretch.

Franklin Pierce closed to within five (46-41) 4:28 into the second half after a Lidke layup, but Pace reeled off a 14-4 run to extend its advantage to 15 points (60-45) with 8:01 to play and the Setters would not let the Ravens within nine points the rest of the way.

Franklin Pierce (6-3, 3-2 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 battle at 5:30 p.m. Pace (7-5, 4-3 NE-10) hosts the College of Saint Rose on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
