Pierce Turns Back RINDGE,
N.H. (January 6, 2005) – Franklin
Pierce led by as much as 18 points in the second half, but held off a
late Le Moyne College comeback to post a 79-70 victory in Northeast-10
Conference women’s basketball action at the Franklin Pierce
Fieldhouse tonight and remain perfect at home this season. Junior captain Heather Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) led another balanced Franklin Pierce attack with a career-high 18 points, aided by a 12-for-13 shooting effort at the free-throw line, to go with nine rebounds off the bench. Sophomore forward Danielle D’Ettorre (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/St. Mary’s) registered her second double-double of the season (third career) as she added 12 points and ten rebounds for her third-straight double-digit rebound outing. She also dished a career-best six assists and added four steals.
Senior
Patricia Lang (Monroe, N.H./St. Johnsbury Academy)
contributed 11 points and nine rebounds before fouling out of the
contest, while freshman Josie Lidke (Chaska, Minn./Chaska)
finished with 14 points as she hit five-of-seven from the field,
including 3-5 from three-point range, to go with four steals. Senior
guard Jennifer Feher (Depew, N.Y./Depew) was the lone Le
Moyne player in double-digits with a career-best 31 points as she hit
13-of-20 from the field to go with five rebounds, three assists, three
steals and two blocks. Sophomore Lindsay Carr (Bronx,
N.Y./Preston) added eight points and seven assists, while
classmate Lindsay Ellis (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport)
chipped in nine points and four rebounds. The Ravens out-rebounded the Dolphins by a 40-30 margin and outscored the visitors 26-12 at the line as they hit 78.8-percent (26-33) of their attempts. Le Moyne hit 47.4-percent (27-57) from the field, compared to 41.8% (23-55) for Franklin Pierce.
Franklin
Pierce led by three (45-42) after a Carr lay-up 5:02 into the second
half, but reeled off a 19-4 run over the next six minutes to take an
18-point (64-46) edge with 8:31 to play. Lidke sparked the run with a
pair of three-point plays, while D’Ettorre added a three of her own. Le
Moyne refused to go down quietly and drew within four points (65-61)
with 2:37 to play after a 15-1 run. The Dolphins full-court pressure
forced five turnovers during that span and Feher scored five points to
lead the rally. The
Ravens recovered as Jacobs scored a conventional three-point play to
end the run with 2:07 to play and her team hit 10-of-13 free-throw
attempts down the stretch to ice the victory. Franklin Pierce (7-3, 4-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it visits Saint Michael’s College at 1:30 p.m. Le Moyne (6-6, 2-5 NE-10) visits Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. |
