Pace Cruises Past Franklin Pierce, 9-0EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 6, 2008) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s tennis team was swept by Pace University by a score of 9-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Friday afternoon in East Hartford, Conn. All six Pace players were double winners, led by junior Nataljia Subotic (Brandenton, Fla./Edison Academic). She teamed with sophomore Kaylee Andersen (Goshen, N.Y./P.V. Moore) to take an 8-2 win at first doubles before sweeping Raven freshman Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy), 6-0, 6-0, in a first singles matchup. Anderson also did not lose a game in singles play, defeating sophomore Erin Whyman (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post West), 6-0, 6-0. Raven junior Kathleen Judge (Lowell, Mass./Lowell Catholic) nearly pulled out a win for Franklin Pierce, taking her sixth-singles match with Kira Dembeck into a tiebreaker. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Judge came back to take the second, 6-3, before Dembeck took control in the tiebreaker to earn a 10-4 win. Franklin Pierce (0-11, 0-8 NE-10) plays its final match of the season away from Rindge on Sunday, when the Ravens travel to Manchester, N.H., to take on Saint Anselm College at 11 a.m. Pace (5-5, 4-5 NE-10) takes on Saint Michael’s College on Sunday afternoon.
