Franklin Pierce taken down by Bryant, 9-0
Minott plays first three-set match of the season for the Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (October 14, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s tennis team endured a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Bryant University in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s tennis match on Sunday afternoon at the Franklin Pierce tennis courts.

Chelsea Downing (Cherry Hills, Co.) and Michelle Burke (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) led the dual winners for the visiting Bulldogs, as the duo began the day by teaming up for an 8-1 first-doubles victory over the Ravens’ senior CoCo Minott (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and freshman Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy). Downing then sent Minott to her first singles loss of the season, rebounding from a 6-4 first-set loss to take the final two, 6-1, 6-2. Burke defeated sophomore Mariana Zahora (New Ringgold, Pa./Damaqua) at second singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Franklin Pierce (0-4, 0-4 NE-10) will play its final match of 2007 next Sunday, as the Ravens host Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 Conference match at the Franklin Pierce tennis courts beginning at 12:30 p.m. Bryant completes the fall portion of its schedule with a 5-1 overall mark (4-0 NE-10).
