Franklin Pierce Swept By Assumption, 9-0

WORCESTER, Mass. (March 30, 2008) – Assumption College took all nine matches from Franklin Pierce University in earning a 9-0 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women’s tennis action on Sunday afternoon.

Five players were double winners for Assumption on the afternoon, led by junior Rachael Hansen (New Braunfels, Texas/Westboro), who earned an 8-2 victory at first doubles before defeating freshman Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) in first singles play, 6-0, 6-1.

Junior Julia Kilgore (Wilton, N.H./North Middlesex) and senior Megan Wnuk (North Providence, R.I./LaSalle Academy) each dropped only two games in a pair of matches for Assumption, as the duo teamed up for an 8-1 win at second doubles before taking 6-0 and 6-1 sets in their respective second and fourth singles contests.

Franklin Pierce (0-9, 0-6 NE-10) will begin the home portion of its spring schedule on Thursday, when the Ravens host Saint Michael’s College at 3 p.m. Assumption (3-1, 3-1 NE-10) will travel to Stonehill College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
