Franklin Pierce cruises past Stonehill, 3-0
Parnell records career-best 19 kills for the second time this season


Sophomore Caitlynn Parnell tied her career-high with 19 kills and recorded a career-best .455 hitting percentage in Wednesday's win.

RINDGE, N.H. (September 5, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team began its 2007 Northeast-10 conference schedule with a convincing 3-0 (30-24, 30-17, 30-25) victory over Stonehill College on Wednesday evening at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams.

Sophomore Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) and redshirt freshman Michelle Koike (San Francisco, Calif./Gonzaga University) combined for 11 kills in game one, as the Ravens held on for a 30-24 victory. In the game, the Ravens recorded a .333 hitting percentage as a team.

Franklin Pierce came out strong and cruised to a 30-17 win in the middle game and a 30-25 win in the final game. The Ravens jumped out to an 11-4 lead in game two and never allowed the deficit to get lower than six points the rest of the way. In game three, Franklin Pierce led by as many as seven at 29-22 before allowing three successive points to account for the final score.

Parnell tied her career-high in kills for the second time this year with 19 on a career-high .455 hitting percentage. Koike also excelled for the Ravens, as she recorded nine kills and set new season highs with three aces and a .538 hitting percentage. Junior co-captain Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) had another solid all-around match, recording seven kills, four blocks, three digs and an ace, while junior co-captain Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) had 42 assists and added 11 digs for her second consecutive double-double.

The Ravens put together one of their finest offensive performances of the season, recording 52 kills and a .275 hitting percentage, the latter being a season high.

The Skyhawks were led by Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass./New Bedford), who recorded nine kills, three digs, two blocks and a service ace, and Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin), who had eight kills and four digs.

Franklin Pierce (2-6, 1-0 NE-10) returns to the home court on Friday, as the team welcomes non-conference foe Concordia to the Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. match. Stonehill (0-3, 0-1 NE-10) takes part in the Laker Invitational beginning on Friday.
