Franklin Pierce uses team effort to
defeat Queens, 3-1 RINDGE, N.H. (September 21, 2007) – Sophomore Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) recorded a career-high 15 kills to lead four Ravens in double figures as the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team defeated Queens College, 3-1 (30-23, 30-28, 23-30, 30-21) on Friday night in a non-conference match at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse. Playing once again without leading attacker Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina), Franklin Pierce used a multifaceted attack to take down the Knights. Besides Feldmeth’s 15 kills, freshman Diana Rutt (Dayton, Nev./Dayton) set a new career high with 13 kills while redshirt freshman Michelle Koike (San Francisco, Calif./Gonzaga University) added 12 and junior co-captain Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) contributed 10. Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) contributed 51 assists and seven digs for the Ravens, while freshman libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) returned from a one-match absence with a team-best 22 digs. Queens’ Natalie Edward (Castries, St. Lucia/St. Joseph’s Convent) led all players with 16 kills and tied for the game-high with four blocks.
After a back-and-forth first game, Queens sprinted to a 9-0 lead in game two behind the serving of Milica Mrdak (Bar, Serbia-Montenegro/Niko Rolovic), who contributed three aces during the stretch. Down by eight, the Ravens came back with a 9-0 run of their own on the serve of Hookstadt to turn a 15-7 deficit into a 16-15 lead. The Ravens then scored seven-of-nine points to take an insurmountable lead. Queens earned a win in the third game, but Franklin Pierce went on a 9-2 run after conceding the first four points of the fourth game to take a lead that the team would not give up. Franklin Pierce (8-8, 3-1 NE-10), having climbed back to .500 after starting the season 0-4, will take part in the Northeast-10/ECC Challenge tomorrow at Bentley College, as the Ravens take on New York Institute of Technology at 2 p.m. and Dowling at 4:30 p.m. Queens will also take part in the NE-10/ECC Challenge with matches against Bentley and Merrimack.
