Franklin Pierce rebounds with a 3-1
win over Pace RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2007) – Junior co-captain Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) tied for the match-high with 13 kills and led three Ravens in double-figures as Franklin Pierce University defeated Pace University by a score of 3-1 (27-30, 30-17, 30-22, 30-23) in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s volleyball match on Friday evening at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse. Besides Buchholz, who also had a match-high five blocks, freshman Diana Rutt (Dayton, Nev./Dayton) and sophomore Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) recorded double-digit kill totals with 12 and 11, respectively. Junior co-captain Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) tied her season high with 52 assists to lead all players, while freshman libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) led four Ravens in double digits with a match-high 28 digs, including 19 in the first two games. Freshman Erika Takegawa (Fukuoka, Japan) also had a good game defensively for the Ravens, as she recorded a season-high 13 digs, including 10 in the opening two games.
The Setters were led by Korena Johnson (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook), who tied for the match-high with 13 kills, and Danielle Furka (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), who had one of two Pace double-doubles with 11 kills and 11 digs. The teams split the first two games, although Franklin Pierce looked to have control in the first game. Despite holding a 27-22 edge, the Ravens allowed Pace to score the final eight points of the game on the serve of Sianna Johnson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) to take a 30-27 win. The Ravens responded in the second game, however, jumping out to a 15-6 lead on the strength of a 10-1 run and cruising to a 30-17 win that evened the match. The home team held firm in games three and four, allowing Pace to score more than two consecutive points only twice in earning 30-22 and 30-23 wins that sealed the match. With the win, Franklin Pierce returns to .500 with an overall mark of 10-10 and moves to 4-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while Pace falls to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Ravens will continue their five-match homestand on Tuesday evening when they welcome UMass Lowell to the Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. start.
