Franklin Pierce Sweeps Weekly Conference Awards
Buchholz leads the Ravens with first Player of the Week honor


Junior Nicole Buchholz led the Ravens in kills last weekend at the Nova Southeastern Shark Classic.

RINDGE, N.H. (August 29, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team swept all four weekly awards given out by the Northeast-10 Conference, it was announced on Tuesday. Junior Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) was named the NE-10 Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while classmate Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) earned Setter of the Week honors. A pair of Raven freshmen were also honored, as Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) was named Libero of the Week and Michelle Koike (San Francisco, Calif./Gonzaga University) earned Freshman of the Week accolades.

Buchholz led the Ravens offensively at the Nova Southeastern Shark Classic last weekend, as she averaged over six kills and two blocks per match for the Ravens. The junior co-captain recorded a weekend-high seven kills in the team’s first contest versus Minnesota State-Mankato before recording six kills and a .364 hitting percentage in the afternoon match against Nova Southeastern. The honor is the first Player of the Week award for Buchholz.


Junior Karissa Hookstadt averaged over 18 assists last weekend for the Ravens, leading the team.

Hookstadt earned Setter of the Week honors after averaging over 18 assists, three digs and one kill for Franklin Pierce at the Nova Southeastern Shark Classic. The junior co-captain had her best match of the weekend in the team’s final game, as she recorded a season-best 26 assists, four digs and a service ace against Lynn University. The award is the first Setter of the Week honor for Hookstadt.

Kohout earns Libero of the Week honors after her first week of collegiate matches. The freshman stepped into the team’s libero position and performed very well against top competition, averaging over five digs and one assist per match at the NSU Shark Classic. She registered a season-best 12 digs in the team’s final game of the weekend against Lynn University.

Koike also earns an award after her first week of collegiate action, earning Freshman of the Week honors. The transfer from Gonzaga University recorded six kills, two service aces, two digs and a pair of blocks at the Nova Southeastern Classic last weekend. She had her best game of the weekend in her first collegiate match with the Ravens, registering three kills, two aces, two digs and two blocks.

The Franklin Pierce volleyball team (0-4, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday, as the Ravens begin the home portion of their 2007 schedule with a non-conference match against C.W. Post at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse beginning at 1 p.m.
