The Franklin Pierce University women’s volleyball team will join a growing number of NCAA schools by hosting “Dig for the Cure” night to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. as the team hosts its 2007 regular season finale against American International College.
Those interested in donating to the cause may either pledge an amount per Franklin Pierce dig or donate a flat amount at a table that will be set up in the Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening. So far this season, the Ravens have averaged 17.71 digs per game to rank sixth in the Northeast-10 Conference. The team has set a goal of $1,000 raised for the event, but the team hopes to easily surpass that goal with the generosity of family, friends and spectators.
All donations from the event will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, and to date has invested nearly $1 billion in the fight against breast cancer.
The “Dig for the Cure” program was started in 2003 by Lisa Marston, the head women’s volleyball coach at the University of Charlotte. The effort has grown to include more than 90 colleges and universities in 2007, with the goal being to raise over $200,000 for breast cancer research this year.
