Franklin Pierce Tops UMass Lowell, 3-2
Ravens use balanced offensive attack to defeat River Hawks in 2006 opener;
Buchholz and Parnell lead Ravens attack with 12 kills each

LOWELL, Mass. (Aug. 25, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce women’s volleyball team posted a 3-2 victory over UMass Lowell (32-30, 19-30, 26-30, 30-20, 15-11) in non-conference action this evening at Costello Gym. Sophomore co-captain Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) paced the Ravens offense with 44 assists and seven kills, while also adding 17 digs defensively.

Franklin Pierce used a balanced offensive attack as five Ravens notched double-digit kills. Sophomore Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and freshman Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) led the Ravens offense with 12 kills apiece, while freshman Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami  Killian SHS) added 11 kills in her collegiate debut.

Sophomore Emily Schultz (Salem, Wis./Central Wetosha) and freshman Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) were also solid offensively, tallying ten kills each, while senior co-captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) totaled 37 digs to pace the Raven defense.


Sophomore Nicole Buchholz notched a team-high 12 kills to lead the Ravens offense.

UMass Lowell received solid performance from freshman Allie Eide (Gresham, Ore./Gresham) and junior Erin Hudd (Melrose, Mass./Melrose). Eide sparked the River Hawks with 13 kills and 20 digs, while Hudd posted a match-high 14 kills and eight digs. Senior setter, Caitlin Harte (East Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) notched 51 assists and 11 digs despite the loss.

Franklin Pierce (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow in day two of the UMass Lowell Invitational as it takes on the University of Charleston at 10 a.m. and C.W. Post at 12:30 p.m. UMass Lowell (0-1, 0-0) will also be in action tomorrow as it hosts C.W Post at 10 a.m. and University of Charleston at 12:30 p.m.
