Kreeger Named Volleyball Coach
and Compliance Coordinator
at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. (August 17, 2005) – Franklin Pierce has promoted Michelle Kreeger to Head Volleyball Coach and Compliance Coordinator. The announcement was made today by Bruce Kirsh, Vice President and Director of Athletics at the College and confirmed by President Dr. George J. Hagerty.

"Coach Kreeger is an outstanding addition to our staff,” said Kirsh. “She brings years of experience and professionalism to our volleyball program."

Kreeger takes over reins of the program after serving as assistant coach to Jayson King, who resigned as head coach to concentrate on the baseball program and serve as athletics facilities coordinator. In addition to working with the volleyball program, Kreeger served as assistant coach for women’s lacrosse and was an adjunct professor in the Department of English at the College.

In just one year as an assistant, Kreeger’s effects were felt on the volleyball program as the Ravens compiled an 11-13 overall record after posting an 11-15 mark in 2003. Franklin Pierce narrowly missed on its first Northeast-10 Tournament berth as its 6-8 clip (after going 4-10 in 2003) fell just a game shy of eighth place.

Prior to joining Franklin Pierce, Kreeger compiled an impressive record at the club and high school levels in the greater Washington, D.C., area. In two years with the Metro American Volleyball Club in Washington, D.C., she served as head coach at the 16 and 17-year-old levels. In 2002-03, her 16-year-old regional squad claimed the Chesapeake Regional Silver Division Championship. In 2001-02, the ASICS Metro Virginia Volleyball Club (Westfield, Va.) 16’s also claimed the Chesapeake Regional Silver Division title.

At the high school level, Kreeger served as head coach of the junior varsity team at Bishop Ireton High School, in Arlington, Va., in 2003. She was assistant varsity coach at Episcopal High School (Arlington) in 2002. In 2000, at Centreville (Va.) High School, Kreeger was head coach of the junior varsity squad and assistant coach for the varsity team that claimed the National League District Championship.

“I am excited to join the Franklin Pierce staff and have the opportunity to work with such a talented group of athletes,” said Kreeger. “The team here is extremely motivated to face the challenges before us. I think I speak for the entire team when I say we are looking forward to building a winning program.”

Kreeger, a 1991 graduate of American University, earned her Master’s Degree from American in 2004. In addition to her head coaching duties, she will serve as the first full-time compliance coordinator at Franklin Pierce.

The Franklin Pierce, picked 11th in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches poll released yesterday, opens its 2005 season on Friday, September 2, against Eckerd College and Florida Southern College at the Florida Southern Mocs Invitational in Lakeland, Fla. The Ravens return seven letter winners, including four starters, from last year’s squad.
