Franklin Pierce Holds Off Rivier, 3-2
Buchholz and Hookstadt lead Ravens


Freshman Karissa Hookstadt tallied a team-high 37 assists in tonight's match vs. Rivier College.

RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 19, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce volleyball team battled to hold off Rivier College, 3-2 (30-24, 30-26, 27-30, 26-30, 16-14) in a five set non-conference match up this evening at the Franklin Pierce Field house.

Franklin Pierce freshmen Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) led the attack for the Ravens. 


Freshman Nicole Buchholz had a team-high 16 kills in tonight's match up.

Buchholz contributed with a team-high 16 kills and three blocks, while Hookstadt tallied a team-high 37 assists, 13 digs, two blocks, two aces and two kills.  Co-captains Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn. /The Morgan School) and Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) were also solid for the Ravens.  Vece posted a team high 30 digs and McConnell totaled 15 kills, four aces, four digs and two blocks.   

Senior captain Marissa Marco (Lincoln, R.I.) led Rivier College with a 19 digs and 17 kills.  Freshman Colleen Van Cura (Easy Lyme, Conn.) contributed with 40 assists and 18 digs for the Raiders.   

Franklin Pierce (2-5, 1-1 NE-10) returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Southern New Hampshire University for a match starting at 7 p.m. Rivier College (9-3,  2-0 GNAC) will travel to Mount Ida College tomorrow for a match starting at 6 p.m.
