Eagles top Ravens for second
time this season to sweep season series

N.H. (Oct. 19, 2004) –
The Franklin Pierce volleyball team was edged 3-2 (30-21, 31-33,
23-30, 30-28, 15-10) by non-conference foe Teikyo Post University
tonight. After dropping the first game, the Ravens took control of the
match by winning the second and third games. The visiting Eagles
regained momentum by winning the fourth game. They then won the fifth
and deciding game to take the match. With the win, Teikyo Post
improves its overall record to 20-9. Franklin Pierce drops to 8-11
overall.
Sophomore Tadj
Williams (Albany, N.Y./Bishop McGinn) sparked the Eagles,
totaling 21 kills, while freshman Stacey Garmendia (Pine Bush,
N.Y./Pine Bush) and senior Jennifer Giarratano (Seymour,
Conn./Seymour) tallied 17 kills apiece. Directing the offense
for Teikyo Post was senior Courtney McGinnis (Oxford,
Conn./Seymour) who piled up a match-high 57 assists.
Franklin
Pierce received contributions from a number of players. Leading the
way was sophomore outside hitter Christina Collett (Tombstone,
Ariz./Tombstone), who had a match-high 23 kills. Senior middle
hitter Briana Bates (Belmont, N.H./Endicott College) was
right behind Collett with 18 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Michelle
McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) chipped in with
nine kills, seven digs and four aces. A pair of juniors, Jessica
Ward (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) and Tara Vece
(Clinton, Conn./Morgan School), were solid on defense for the
Ravens, as they totaled 25 and 23 digs respectively. Freshman setter Bria
Williams (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) orchestrated the
Franklin Pierce offense, notching 49 assists.
Franklin
Pierce (8-11, 5-7 NE-10) will next be in action on Thursday when they
host Colby-Sawyer College for a non-conference match beginning at 7
p.m. Teikyo Post (20-9, 11-2 CACC) will also be playing in a home
match on Thursday, when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference
opponent Nyack College at 7 p.m.
