LONDON, N.H. (Oct. 8, 2004) –
The Franklin Pierce volleyball team defeated host Colby-Sawyer College
3-1 (30-25, 30-16, 21-30, 30-19) tonight in non-conference competition
for their fifth straight road victory and second straight win
overall. With the win,
Franklin Pierce improves its overall record to 7-9 and its conference
mark to 5-6. Colby-Sawyer drops to 13-2 overall and 7-2 in league
play.
The
Ravens received a solid overall effort from sophomore outside hitter Christina
Collett (Tombstone, Ariz./Tombstone), as she delivered 17
kills, 12 digs, three blocks and two aces. Classmate Michelle
McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) also played well,
chipping in with 12 digs, ten kills and three aces. Directing the
Franklin Pierce offense was freshman Bria Williams (Chino
Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley), who had 31 assists to go along
with four digs and three kills. Junior co-captain Tara Vece
(Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) posted 17 digs on the defensive
side for the Ravens.
Franklin
Pierce (7-9, 5-6 NE-10) will return to the courts on Tuesday, when
they travel to Merrimack College for a Northeast-10 Conference match
beginning at 7 p.m. Colby-Sawyer (13-2, 7-1 CCC) will be in action on
Monday, as they visit Bates College for a Commonwealth Coast
Conference match starting at 7 p.m.
