Southern New Hampshire, 3-1

Ravens earn victory in Purple Knight Invitational opener

  RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 3, 2004) – The Franklin Pierce volleyball team opened the Bridgeport Purple Knight Invitational with a 3-1 (26-30, 30-26, 30-19, 30-19) victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action this evening.

Sophomore outside hitter Christina Collett (Tombstone, Ariz./Tombstone) sparked Franklin Pierce, as she totaled a team-best 18 kills to go along with ten digs, two blocks and an ace. Setter Bria Williams (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) posted 37 assists and six kills. The freshman also chipped in with five digs and two aces. Junior co-captain Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) had a team-high 22 digs for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce (1-1, 1-1 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow at noon as they take on Teikyo Post in day two of the Bridgeport Purple Knight Invitational. The Ravens will also play a yet to be determined opponent in their final match of the weekend tomorrow. Southern New Hampshire (0-2, 0-1 NE-10) will face Bridgeport at 10 a.m. tomorrow, and will also participate in a second match as the tournament comes to a close.
