GABRIELA DEMONER

RINDGE, N.H. (November 6, 2006) – Four Franklin Pierce student-athletes earned weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly this afternoon.

Junior Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) was named the NE-10 Player of the Week in women’s soccer, while Mackenzie Bulych (Regina, Saskatchewan/Dr. Martin LeBoldus) was named Freshman of the Week. Ice hockey honors went senior Brian DelSavio (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River), who was named Player of the Week, while junior Spencer Utman (Brockville, Ontario/SUNY-Canton) collected Goaltender of the Week honors.

Demoner earns her second-straight Player of the Week award (third overall) after leading Franklin Pierce to its 11th-straight New England Regional title with two goals and two assists for six points in the two opening rounds of the 2006 NCAA Division II Championships. The first team All-Northeast-10 selection played a role in all three goals in the sixth-ranked Ravens 3-1 victory over No. 15 College of Saint Rose with a goal (match-winner) and two assists in the regional final. Demoner also netted the equalizing goal in a 1-1, opening round draw with UMass Lowell in which Franklin Pierce would eventually advance in a penalty shootout.

MACKENZIE BULYCH

Demoner has been the spark behind Franklin Pierce’s offensive attack during its current 18-match unbeaten streak (17-0-1). She leads the Northeast-10 with 12 assists to go with a team-best 14 goals (3rd NE-10) for 40 points (3rd) in 18 matches played. Demoner also holds the team lead with six match-winning goals (3rd).

Bulych earns Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season after helping Franklin Pierce to its 11th-straight regional crown with the opening goal in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Saint Rose in the NCAA Tournament New England Regional title match.

Bulych ranks second on the team with three match winning-goals in her first collegiate season. She is also fifth on the team with nine points, scoring four goals (fifth-team) and adding an assist, in 14 matches played (nine starts).

BRIAN DELSAVIO

The Franklin Pierce women’s soccer team (18-2-0, 12-2-0 NE-10), ranked 6th the final regular season NSCAA/adidas Division II poll, will face No. 2 West Chester (Pa.) University (22-0) on Saturday at noon in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.

DelSavio receives his first NE-10 weekly honor after being named Player of the Week in men’s ice hockey. DelSavio recorded three goals, including the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining in regulation, to lead Franklin Pierce to a season-opening 5-4 victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday. The victory marked the first win over Salve Regina for the Ravens, since becoming a varsity program in 2002.

DelSavio’s hat trick was just the fifth in five years and second since he completed the feat last season in a setback to Southern New Hampshire University on February 18, 2006.

DelSavio ranks among career leaders at the College in several categories. His 23 career goals are good for third in program history, while his 47 points rank third and his 24 career assists are fourth. He also ranks seventh all-time with 67 career games played.

Utman also earns his first weekly honor as part of the Franklin Pierce ice hockey team. The junior transfer posted a .892 save percentage with 33 saves en route to his first victory of the season.

Franklin Pierce (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NE-10, 0-0-0 ECAC NE) will be in action again on Wednesday as it travels to Curry College at 7 p.m.
