RINDGE, N.H. (September 24, 2007) – Two Franklin Pierce University soccer All-Americans received weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday.

Senior All-American Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) earned NE-10 women’s soccer Player of the Week honors for the second-straight week (sixth career), while senior All-American James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) collected men’s Goalkeeper of the Week accolades for the first time this season (15th career) from the Conference.

Demoner played a role in all five Franklin Pierce goals in a 1-0-1 week, totaling four goals and an assist for nine points. She registered two goals and an assist in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Pace University after netting both Raven goals in Wednesday’s 2-2 double-overtime draw with Stonehill College. Demoner scored the equalizing goal against Stonehill with just 6:18 to play in regulation.

Demoner, who has played a role in Franklin Pierce’s last nine goals scored – netting six and assisting on three, leads the Northeast-10 with 11 goals and 29 points. Her team-best seven assists are good for second in the Conference.

Demoner, who recently helped lead Brazil to a bronze medal at the 2007 World University Games in Thailand after helping her country to a gold medal at that event in 2005, currently ranks 21st in program history with 71 points while in her second season at Franklin Pierce.

Thorpe averaged 2.5 saves per match in posting a pair of shutouts in a 2-0 week for the Franklin Pierce men’s team – who remain unbeaten over their last seven matches (6-0-1). He made four saves in Saturday’s 3-0 victory at Bryant University, the Ravens first in four visits to Smithfield, R.I., under Head Coach Marco Koolman, after making one stop in Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Bentley College.

Thorpe has played all 740 of Franklin Pierce’s minutes in goal this season over eight matches and has posted a 0.73 goals against average (5th NE-10) and .750 save percentage with four shutouts (2nd).

Thorpe, the first three-time Goalkeeper of the Year in NE-10 history and first two-time All-America keeper in program history, is in the process of re-writing the Franklin Pierce men’s soccer record books. His 41 career shutouts have shattered both the program and NE-10 records, while his 0.68 career GAA is on pace to shatter the program mark, while his .812 career save percentage is currently good for second all-time. The Ravens have posted a 54-13-10 record over the past four seasons with Thorpe between the goal posts. Last season, Thorpe posted a Division II-best and program record 0.45 goals against average, while his 14 shutouts as a freshman led DII and set a program record.

Among NCAA Division II career leaders, Thorpe ranks 13th in goals against average and ninth with his 6,977 career minutes played.

The Franklin Pierce women (6-1-2, 4-1-2 NE-10), ranked 17th in last week’s NSCAA/adidas Division II poll and third in the New England Region, is back in action on Tuesday when it visits rival Merrimack College, ranked fourth in the region, at 7 p.m. The men (6-1-1, 5-0-0 NE-10) visits Granite State rivals Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
