in 21 years behind Joyce double

NYACK, N.Y. (September 10, 2005) – Franklin Pierce ended its longest winless streak in 21 years with a 2-0 victory over Nyack College in non-conference men’s soccer action at Mosley Field this afternoon.

All-America forward Christopher Joyce (Jarrow, England) scored both Franklin Pierce goals to end the Ravens four-match winless streak, the program’s longest since a seven-match stretch early in the 1984 season. Sophomore goalkeeper James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) collected six saves to preserve his second shutout of the season (16th career) in goal for the Ravens.

Sophomore James Thorpe recorded the 16th shutout of his career with six saves.

Joyce opened the scoring 12:40 into the match when he took a pass from junior Dino Patramanis (Worcester, Mass./Quinsigamond CC) and broke in one-on-one with Nyack senior goalkeeper Matt Andre (West Springfield, Mass.) and beat him with a low shot. Joyce added an insurance goal early in the second half off a through ball from freshman Marek Hawrylik (Olsztyn, Poland/The Winchendon (Mass.) School).

Andre finished with two saves for Nyack, which out-shot Franklin Pierce 10-8 for the match.

Franklin Pierce (2-3-1) opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule on Wednesday when it visits Assumption College at 4 p.m. Nyack (2-2-1) hosts No. 24 Caldwell College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
