Bucs goal 1:01 into second overtime hands
Ravens first loss on Sodexho Field

RINDGE, N.H. (September 2, 2005) – Sophomore Lee Yakubowich (Victoria, British Columbia/Lambrick Park) scored 1:01 into the second overtime to lift Barry University to a 3-2 victory over Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 9 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II preseason coaches poll, on day one of the 2005 Franklin Pierce Labor Day Classic at Sodexho Field.

The loss was the first for Franklin Pierce in four matches on its new field, including three matches played last season. Junior Jason Wiles (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evergreen) found Yakubowich with a serve from the right flank for a wide-open header at the far post. The shot was Barry’s first in the two overtime periods.

Franklin Pierce took an early lead when junior Dino Patramanis (Worcester, Mass./Quinsigamond CC) netted his first career goal 12:59 into the match. All-America forward Christopher Joyce (Jarrow, England) layed a ball back from just inside the top of the box during a scramble and Patramanis fired it in stride past the diving effort of Barry junior goalkeeper Chris Rich (Valrico, Fla./Bloomingdale).

Junior Dino Patrimanis netted the first goal of his career tonight.

Barry struck right back with a pair of goals in the span of a little over a minute. The Buccaneers first goal came off a free kick from near midfield. Junior Pat Anderson (Miami, Fla./Killian) sent a low ball into the penalty area, that was tipped by a teammate, then deflected by a Franklin Pierce defender past a helpess James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) for the equalizer at 15:38. The marker was also the first by a Raven opponent at Sodexho Field in four matches - snapping a scoreless streak of 295:29.

The Bucs struck again just 1:38 later when Anderson headed in a cross from senior Eitan Arbel (Herzlia, Israel) in the 18th minute.

Franklin Pierce equalized just shy of the hour mark when grad student Simon Walker (Jarrow, England) squared a ball across the top of the box for Joyce, who rocketed a shot past Rich at 59:58. The goal came just four minutes after Franklin Pierce junior Peter Petropanagos (Mississauga, Ontario/York University) cleared a header by Barry sophomore Emmanuel Miranda (Cannes, France) during a scramble that would have given the Bucs a two-goal edge.

The Ravens had the best chance to avoid overtime late in regulation, but junior Jason Grier (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) just missed high on a header in the 87th minute.

Thorpe finished with one save in goal for Franklin Pierce, while Rich picked up the win without making a stop. Barry out-shot the hosts, 12-9, including 8-4 after halftime.

Franklin Pierce (1-2) is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Dominican College (2-1) at 2 p.m. Dominican posted a 1-0 victory over the University of Bridgeport in today’s first match. Barry (2-0) faces Bridgeport Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
