RINDGE, N.H. (September 21, 2005) – Franklin Pierce, ranked eighth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas New England Regional poll, scored a goal midway through each half in collecting a 2-0 victory over Bentley College in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action at Sodexho Field tonight.

now unscored upon over its last 428:56 after tonight’s clean sheet. Sophomore goalkeeper James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) posted his fourth shutout of the season (18th career), making one save, and extended his own personal shutout streak to 383:56.

            Freshman midfielder Hideo Nemoto (Tokyo, Japan) scored the only goal Franklin Pierce would need in the 27th minute. Nemoto took a pass from junior Peter Petropanagos (Mississauga, Ontario/York University) and fired a side-footed shot from the left channel inside the right post for the first goal of his collegiate career.

            All-America forward Christopher Joyce (Jarrow, England) netted an insurance goal in the 68th minute by driving a free kick from 21-yards out into the upper left corner.

            Bentley’s best scoring chance came in the 80th minute, but sophomore Mike Crepeau’s (Reading, Mass./Reading) low shot from the right channel was scooped off the deck by Thorpe at the near post.

            Senior goalkeeper Greg Ott (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) made one save for Bentley, who was out-shot 12-7 for the contest.

            Franklin Pierce (5-3-1, 3-0 NE-10) returns to action on Friday when it visits Bryant University at 3:30 p.m. Bentley (3-3, 1-3 NE-10) travels to the College of Saint Rose on Saturday for a match at 2 p.m.
