McColl double lifts Ravens to 9-0 in Conference play

RINDGE, N.H. (October 14, 2003) – Franklin Pierce, ranked No. 14 in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, remained perfect in Conference play this season with a 3-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action at Crystal Field this afternoon.

            Junior midfielder Troy McColl (Doonside, Australia) netted a pair of goals to lead Franklin Pierce to victory, while sophomore Willie Hanlon (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) rounded out the scoring.

            Senior goalkeeper Domenico Roma (Windsor, Ontario/Ste. Annes) extended his current shutout streak to 317:45 as he turned in just over 79-minutes of shutout play this afternoon with four saves before giving way to freshman Joseph Luginsland (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard), who made one stop over the final 10:54. Roma has now yielded just two goals over 624:34 this season for a 0.29 goals against average.            


Senior goalkeeper Domenico Roma made four saves to stretch his shutout streak to over 317 minutes.

Stonehill sophomore Will Halfmann (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) made eight saves in net on the other side. Franklin Pierce out-shot the Chieftains by a 25-9 margin for the match.

            McColl opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he took a quick pass from junior Mark Jansen (Enschede, The Netherlands), beat one defender, then fired a shot past Halfmann.

            McColl rounded out his first career double in the 57th minute when he headed in a cross from the right side by sophomore Lars Bakker (Enschede, The Netherlands) at the far post.

            Hanlon netted his first goal of the season less than four minutes later by one-timing a serve from the left wing from junior Michael Black (Gulford, Conn./Guilford) at the far post at 60:30.

Franklin Pierce (9-3-1, 9-0 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it visits Bryant College, ranked seventh in the New England Region, at 1 p.m. Stonehill (2-10-1, 1-9 NE-10) visits College of Saint Rose on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
