Franklin Pierce Escapes Bentley with Tie, 2-2

WALTHAM, Mass. (September 14, 2002) - Franklin Pierce, receiving votes in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, needed a second-half goal to escape Bentley College with a 2-2 tie in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action this afternoon.

Junior midfielder Felix Brillant (Montreal, Quebec/College Francais) knotted the score at 2-2 with a goal, assisted by sophomore Michael Adu-Gyamfi (Worcester, Mass./North), at the 62:35-mark. However, despite a 30-14 shots advantage, the Ravens were unable to net a game winner over the final 47 minutes of play (including overtime).

Bentley junior goalkeeper Matt Parsons registered ten saves to preserve the deadlock. Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Domenico Roma (Windsor, Ontario/Ste. Annes) made three stops.

Franklin Pierce snapped a string of 212 scoreless minutes dating back to an overtime win at the University of New Haven on September 4 when junior Asgrimur Sigurdsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) netted his second career goal in the third minute, assisted by junior Bjorgolfor Takefusa (Reykjavik, Iceland).

Bentley fought back with freshman Stephen Burton netting an equalizing goal in the 23rd minute, assisted by classmate Matt Ackerman.

The Falcons took a 2-1 lead before halftime on a marker from sophomore Joe Frost at the 39:06 mark, assisted by senior Jeff Schrumm.

Franklin Pierce (2-2-2, 0-1-2 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts College of Saint Rose at 4 p.m.
