Pierce Blanks Gannon, RINDGE, N.H. (September 2, 2002) - Franklin Pierce earned its first victory of the season with a 3-0 decision over Gannon University in non-conference men’s soccer action at Crystal Field this afternoon. Junior striker Bjorgolfor Takefusa (Reykjavik, Iceland) led Franklin Pierce with a goal and an assist. Takefusa put the Ravens on the board with an early unassisted goal at the 10:38 mark. After a Franklin Pierce throw-in, Takefusa eluded a pair of Gannon defenders before scoring from the left side of the penalty box.
Takefusa was then involved in a textbook give-and-go with junior Felix Brillant (Montreal, Quebec/College Francais), who found senior Tate Travis (Detroit, Mich./UC Santa Barbara) for a goal in the 18th minute of play. The Ravens rounded out the scoring off a failed defensive clear by Gannon. Ravens junior Sean McCabe (Derry City, Northern Ireland) flicked back the clear attempt and found the head of junior back Asgrimur Sigurdsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) for his first career goal at the 85:21 mark. Junior goalkeeper Domenico Roma (Windsor, Ontario/Lambton College) registered five saves in net to preserve the Ravens victory and record his fifth career shutout. Gannon sophomore goalkeeper Matt Angelo posted four saves in the loss. Franklin Pierce (1-1) returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to West Haven, Conn., for a match at the University of New Haven at 4 p.m. Gannon (0-1-1) hosts University of District of Columbia on Friday at 3p.m. Franklin Pierce 3, Gannon 0
