Franklin Pierce’s Comé Appears in “Faces in the Crowd” RINDGE, N.H. (October 24, 2007) – Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer sophomore Henning Comé (Göteborg, Sweden) is featured in the “Faces in the Crowd” section of the October 29 issue of Sports Illustrated that will hit newsstands on Monday and is featured on-line at www.si.com/faces starting today. Comé is featured along with his younger brother, Marcus, a freshman at Dowling College for earning Player of the Week honors in their respective Conference’s in the same week recently. Henning collected the award in the Northeast-10, while Marcus was the award winner in the East Coast Conference. Comé is the ninth student-athlete or coach from Franklin Pierce to be featured in “Faces in the Crowd”, and the second men’s soccer player – joining teammate and senior All-American James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) who appeared in the December 13, 2004 issue. Others who have been included in “Faces in the Crowd” from the University are women’s soccer All-Americans Laura Hislop (10/31/05), Meghan Welcome (12/15/03), Pauliina Miettinen (11/10/97) and Nathalie Geeris (12/26/94), women’s soccer head coach Jeff Bailey (December, 1999), women’s basketball All-American Johannah Leedham (1/15/07) and men’s basketball Hall of Famer Bob Szklarz (1968).
Comé has made an immediate impact for the Franklin Pierce men’s soccer team, ranked fifth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, after transferring from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn. He is second on the team with 13 goals (2nd NE-10) and 30 points (2nd), while his four assists are good for third on the club. Comé shares the team lead with four match-winning goals (2nd). Comé collected NE-10 Player of the Week honors on September 17 when he totaled five goals and an assist for 11 points in a 2-0 week for Franklin Pierce. Included in that stretch was a hat trick in the opening 10:53 of the Ravens 4-1 win at Assumption College. He enters the postseason on the heels of a five point (2 gls, 1 ast) outing in a 3-0 victory over Saint Michael’s College and he scored a goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win at The College of Saint Rose.
Franklin Pierce (12-1-3, 11-0-2 NE-10) captured its
program record third-straight Northeast-10 regular season title and
will open defense of its NE-10 Tournament title as the top seed in
the event which begins with quarterfinal round action on Sunday.
Match time and the Ravens opponent have yet to be determined,
pending the results of the final round of NE-10 contests today and
tomorrow. |
