Comé figures in all three goals as Ravens
run unbeaten streak to 13

RINDGE, N.H. (October 13, 2007) – Franklin Pierce University, ranked eighth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II coaches’ poll, extended its unbeaten streak to 13 with a 3-0 victory over Saint Michael’s College, ranked seventh in the New England Region, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action as part of Alumni and Reunion Weekend at Sodexho Field this afternoon.

Sophomore Henning Comé (Gothenburg, Sweden) played a role in all three Franklin Pierce goals, netting two and assisting on another, as the Ravens avenged its last NE-10 regular season loss. Saint Michael’s posted a 1-0 victory over Franklin Pierce on October 14, 2006, in Colchester, Vt. The Ravens are now 33-2-4 over their last 39 NE-10 regular season contests and are 24-0-1 in regular season league matches at home since 2003.

Grad student David Clifton (London, England) also scored for Franklin Pierce and has netted 11 goals over the last five matches. Senior Mike Lima (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow), junior Marek Hawrylik (Olsztyn, Poland/The Winchendon (Mass.) School) and freshman Adit Phataraprasit (Bangkok, Thailand) each collected assists for the Ravens.

Senior All-America goalkeeper James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) registered his seventh shutout of the season (44th career) without making a save, while senior Tim Williamson (Wakefield, R.I./Barrington) finished with three saves for Saint Michael’s. The Ravens out-shot the Purple Knights, 12-4 on the day.

Franklin Pierce wasted little time taking a lead it would not relinquish as Comé scored just 3:34 into the contest. He timed a run perfectly to get under a long pass from midfield by Lima and slotted a low shot into the left side on the first shot of the match. Comé doubled the Ravens lead in the 34th minute with a far post header from just outside the six-yard box off a serve from deep down the right flank by Hawrylik.

Franklin Pierce iced the victory when Comé and Phataraprasit worked a give and go before hitting Clifton with a cross from the left side. The cross put Clifton in one-on-one with Williamson for a low shot into the left side of the net from eight yards out in the right channel.

Franklin Pierce (11-1-2, 10-0-1 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University at Sodexho Field on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The contest is a rematch of both the 2006 NE-10 Tournament Championship and NCAA New England Regional final. Franklin Pierce captured the NE-10 title in a penalty shootout after the two sides played to a scoreless draw, before the Owls ended the Ravens season with a 2-1 triumph just seven days later – netting the winning goal with just 20-seconds left in regulation.

Saint Michael’s (9-3-4, 4-3-4 NE-10) travels to Bentley College next Saturday for a match at 2 p.m.
