Hawrylik and Comé each collect five points 
to lead Ravens to rebound victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (August 26, 2007) – Franklin Pierce University, ranked ninth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II preseason coaches’ poll, rebounded from Friday’s season-opening loss with a 5-0 victory over Post University on day two of the Southern Connecticut State University Autumn Classic at Jess Dow Field today.

Junior midfielder Marek Hawrylik (Olsztyn, Poland/The Winchendon (Mass.) School) and sophomore Henning Comé (Gothenburg, Sweden) each collected two goals and an assist to lead Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Kensaku Tsuji (Tokushima, Japan) netted his first career goal for the Ravens, while freshman Connor O’Brien (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) collected his first collegiate point with an assist.

Senior All-America goalkeeper James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) was virtually untested in net, making one save to preserve his Northeast-10 Conference and program record 38th career shutout. Junior Mike Aeschliman (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) made three saves over the final 69-plus minutes after relieving classmate Dan Nadel (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) who allowed goals on the only two shots on target he faced in the first 20 minutes.


Sophomore Henning Comé tallied two goals and an assist as well for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce set the tone early in the match, racing out to a 4-0 lead by the intermission. Hawrylik opened the scoring just 7:31 into the match as he headed in a cross from senior Mike Lima (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow).  Come¢ doubled the Ravens advantage just over ten minutes later, netting his first career goal with a header off a free kick from junior Cole Larned (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) at 17:43. Come¢ completed his double in the 33rd minute when he took a cross from O’Brien and converted from eight yards out. Tsuji completed the Ravens first half onslaught just six seconds before halftime, assisted by Hawrylik.

Hawrylik rounded out his double and Franklin Pierce’s scoring in the 70th minute off a feed from Come¢. The Ravens outshot the Eagles 17-3 for the match, including 11-1 in the first half.

            Franklin Pierce (1-1, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Thursday when it kicks off the Franklin Pierce Labor Day Classic at Sodexho Field against Caldwell College at 7 p.m. Nyack College and the University of Bridgeport will play in match one of the day at 4:30 p.m. Post (0-2, 0-0 CACC) hosts Molloy College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
