Franklin Pierce
Defeats Bryant, 3-0

Clifton notches goal and assist as Ravens
run unbeaten streak to seven matches

RINDGE, N.H. (September 22, 2007) – Franklin Pierce University, ranked fifth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas New England Regional poll, is unbeaten through its last seven matches and continued its perfect start to the Conference season with a 3-0 victory at Bryant University, ranked sixth in the region, in Northeast-10 men’s soccer action at Bulldog Stadium this afternoon.

In extending its current unbeaten run (6-0-1), Franklin Pierce also picked up its first win at Bryant since a 2-1 decision in 1999 – its first in four visits under Head Coach Marco Koolman (1-2-1). Grad student David Clifton (London, England) led the Ravens with a goal and assist, while sophomore Henning Comé (Gothenburg, Sweden) and senior captain Peter Petropanagos (Mississauga, Ontario/York University) each added goals.

Senior All-America goalkeeper James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton Academy) made four saves (all first half) to preserve his fifth shutout of the season (41st career) for Franklin Pierce. Senior goalkeeper Tom Madden (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) made one save in 72:43 for Bryant.

Senior captain Peter Petropanagos netted his first career goal this afternoon.

Franklin Pierce controlled play through much of the early portions of the match. Junior Marek Hawrylik (Olsztyn, Poland/The Winchendon (Mass.) School) just missed opening the scoring in the 25th minute, but his header caromed off the right post. The Ravens were able to break through moments later as Comé collected his NE-10 best ninth goal of the season, taking a long pass from midfield by Clifton for a shot past Madden in the 33rd minute.

Franklin Pierce carried a two-goal cushion into the intermission as Clifton bagged his fourth goal in four matches, assisted by senior Mike Lima (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow) in the 41st minute. Petropanagos rounded out the scoring with his first career goal, assisted by sophomore Matthijs Eppinga (Drachten, The Netherlands), in the 71st.

Franklin Pierce (6-1-1, 5-0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Granite State rivals Southern New Hampshire University, ranked ninth in the region, at 7 p.m. The Ravens return home next Saturday, September 29, when they host Stonehill College at 7 p.m. Bryant (6-3-0, 3-3-0 NE-10) hosts Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
