Cowden leads Ravens with three points
in season-opener
RINDGE,
N.H. (March 8, 2006) – The
Franklin Pierce men’s lacrosse team fell 21-4 to Keene State College in
season-opening non-conference action today at Sodexho Field. The Owls
outscored the Ravens 13-1 in the first half and never looked back as
Keene State won its second straight game.
Keene State prevailed behind a balanced scoring attack in
which 11 players contributed goals. Junior Sean Panora (South
Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) led all scorers with a game-high
five points, on four goals and one assist. Classmate Mike LeSage
(Exeter, N.H./Exeter) pitched in with four points in the game,
on two goals and two assists, while junior Greg Gonzales (Yorktown
Hts, N.Y./Yorktown) registered three points on three goals off
the bench of the Owls.
Franklin Pierce was led by senior captain Nick Cowden
(Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) who tallied a team high three
points, on two goals and one assist. Sophomores Luke Ferreira
(Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) and Russell Hodson (Chillmark,
Mass./Martha’s Vineyard) each contributed on goal apiece in the
loss.
Franklin Pierce was out-shot 34-19. Keene State sophomore
goalkeeper Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy)
stopped 15 shots to complete the victory, while Raven goalkeepers,
senior Ben Lek (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and
sophomore Freeman Scott (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue)
combined to stop 13 shots.
Franklin Pierce (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) will be
in action again on March 18 as it travels to Davidson College for a game
at 2 p.m. Keene State College (2-0, 0-0 LEC) will travel to Assumption
College on Thursday March 23 for match starting at 7 p.m.
