Southern New Hampshire Runs Past Franklin Pierce, 16-2MANCHESTER,
N.H. (April 24, 2005) – The
Franklin Pierce men’s lacrosse team fell 16-2 to Southern New
Hampshire University tonight in Northeast-10 Conference action in
Manchester, N.H. The Penmen jumped out to a 10-1 lead after one half of
play and outscored the Ravens 6-1 in the second stanza en route to their
fourth victory in five chances.
Sophomores Joe Young (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy)
and Jon Habel (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) each notched hat
tricks, while freshman Spencer Rennick (Peabody, Mass./Veterans
Memorial) totaled three points on a pair of goals and an assist.
Junior Ryan Deal (Waterbury Center, Vt./Harwood Union) and
freshman Chris Dindler (Stephney, Australia) added two
markers apiece for Southern New Hampshire. The
duo of sophomore Greg Palladino (Hingham, Mass./Hingham)
and senior Davis Shields (Hamstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy)
split time in net for the Penmen. Palladino earned the victory with his
three save performance in the first half, while Shields stopped 12 shots
in the second frame.
Both Franklin Pierce goals were scored by junior co-captain Nick
Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead). Ravens freshman
goalkeeper Freeman Scott (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) made
a season-best 25 saves in a losing effort. Franklin Pierce (1-8, 1-7 NE-10) returns home for a Northeast-10 Conference tilt with Merrimack College tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (4-7, 4-5 NE-10) wraps up its regular season slate on Wednesday, when they host top-ranked Le Moyne College for a league game at 6:00 p.m. Southern
