#10 Bryant Uses Big First
Half to Defeat Franklin Pierce, 14-2
SMITHFIELD,
R.I. (April 27, 2005) – Bryant
University, ranked No. 10 in this week’s USILA Division II men’s
lacrosse poll, cruised to a 14-2 victory over Northeast-10 Conference
foe Franklin Pierce 14-2 this afternoon in the regular season finale for
both teams. The Bulldogs outscored the Ravens 11-1 in the first half en
route to their fifth-straight victory. Senior
Andrew Serge (Albany, N.Y./Colonial Central) totaled six
points on three goals and three helpers to lead all scorers. Sophomore Adam
Smith (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) was next with two
goals and a pair of assists, while freshman Craig Buckhout (South
Salem, N.Y./John Jay) added a hat trick for Bryant. Senior Matt
Lovejoy (Thorton, Pa.) picked up the victory in net, making a
pair of saves in the first half. He gave way to freshman Michael
Kennedy (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Comsewogue), who stopped five
shots in the second half. Both
Ravens goals were scored by junior captain Nick Cowden (Marblehead,
Mass./Marblehead). Freshman goalkeeper Freeman Scott (Farmington,
Maine/Mt. Blue) made 16 saves in a losing effort. Franklin Pierce finished the season with an overall record of 1-10, going 1-9 in Northeast-10 Conference competition. Bryant wrapped-up its regular season with a 9-5 overall mark, and posted an 8-2 record in league play. The Bulldogs will host a Conference Tournament quarterfinal contest on Saturday versus a yet to be determined opponent. Bryant
